Bruce Krumm

Bruce was born and spent his youth in South Africa before emmigrating to the United States and completing his science degree at the University of Utah. He then headed off to Scotland where he completed his veterinary degree at the University of Glasgow in 2002. Preferring the more tropical lifestyle, he then came out to Australia, where he worked in Wauchope and Newcastle for a few years, before permanently settling on the Central Coast.

Bruce’s professional interests lie in all aspects of medicine and surgery. He has a particular passion for ultrasonography and soft tissue surgery.

Bruce is married to Briar and together they have two young boys. Outside of work, Bruce enjoys diving, kayaking, crossfit and karate. The family has a much loved big brown dog called Henry as well as two mischievous cats, Rosie and Twistie.

Stephen Ferrett

Stephen completed his veterinary degree at the University of Queensland in 2010. He has worked in both small and mixed animal practices within Port Stephens and the Central Coast. Stephen also spent two years working as an emergency and critical care veterinarian at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) in Sydney and the Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) in Gosford. Stephen joined the team at Kanwal Veterinary Hospital in March of 2017.

Stephen is interested in all areas of veterinary general practice, but he holds a particular fondness for surgery, dentistry, and emergency medicine. And yes, he has seen the occasional ferret.

When not at work, Stephen enjoys being at home with his partner Belinda, and son Cameron. He enjoys taking time out by training in karate, playing guitar, or indulging in a nice meal with a glass of wine. The family also lives with a lovely ginger cat named Reg, who is a little bit simple....

Briar Krumm (Thornburrow)

Briar undertook her veterinary degree and graduated from the University of Queensland in 2000. She has worked on the Central Coast since graduating. Her interests include small animal medicine and emergency medicine.

She is married to Bruce and in her spare time, she is kept very busy tending to their two young boys and pets Henry, Rosie and Twistie.

Chris was raised and educated in small towns in country Queensland and ended up at Queensland University where he graduated in 1976 with a honours degree in Veterinary Science. After short periods working in Adelaide and Brisbane he took a position in Newcastle at Cardiff Veterinary Hospital where he worked for 8 ½ years. After another year working in Brisbane he bought Kanwal Veterinary Hospital in 1987.

Since then he has looked after the pets of people in the Kanwal area and has had the pleasure of caring in some instances for several generations of both pets and families.

Chris is married to Gillian and they have 3 children. Gareth, a lawyer working in Canberra, Meredith, who is studying Occupational Therapy and Callum, who is studying advanced Science.

Chris’s objective is to provide clients with excellent Veterinary care, but also a friendly atmosphere where they are kept informed of what is happening to their pets.

Chris is now enjoying a well earned, semi-retirement. However, he is still about and thoroughly enjoys his one and a half days of consulting each week!

Tiana McLaren

Practice Manager

Tiana has come to our practice with 15 years industry experience and is really looking forward working with such a dedicated and devoted team at Kanwal. Tiana has been a local all her life and has 4 young children with her Husband Dean. They have some acreage and enjoy spending time with their dogs and horses.

Pam Dewberry

I have had a life long passion for animals and enjoy looking after the patients that come into the clinic.

My four legged family consists of my two horses - 25 year old Quarter Horse gelding, Major and 28 year old Arab mare, Khali, my 15 year old Terrier cross, Tasha and 14 year old cat, Bengal.

I find working at Kanwal Veterinary Hospital very rewarding –always learning with each day different.

 

Darleen Jager

I have worked at Kanwal vet since Oct 1996.

I’m married and have 2 beautiful daughters.

I have got 4 pets,1 dog Lucy, 3 cats Isabella, Bindi & Smurf. Isabella is the oldest of my pets and Smurf is the youngest.

I love spending my free time walking Lucy, having family time, watching my girls play sports, riding my motor bike & camping.

 

 

Samantha Brokenshire

My love for animals led to studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at Kurri Kurri campus. Since I have finished that I haven’t looked back.

I have two children, Maddison and Rylan, along with a Great Dane “Abbie” and a cat affectionally named by my children as “Cat”.

 

Hayley Waterlander

My passion has always been to work with animals.

I have been a veterinary nurse since 2006 and not looked back. I have been part of the Kanwal veterinary family since 2012. I have completed Certificate 3 and 4 in veterinary nursing.

My furry family consists of four spoilt cats, two dogs and horse called Honey. My hobbies include horse riding, motorbiking and my two vintage cars.

 

 

Kim Clarke

Kim is one of our Veterinary Nurses, Kim lives with her partner and two young children. Kim enjoys spending time with her horses and going to the beach. Kim has been with Kanwal Veterinary hospital for 10 years.

Fattylardis

Clinic Cat

Fatty arrived as a stray and managed to stay and be fed at our clinic for the rest of his life. His main work was to help with ideas for the information sign at the front of the clinic.

Sadly Fatty passed away in May 2017. He is sorely missed by us all, but his memory lives on!
