Here at Kanwal Vets we have only extremely talented and dedicated Vets working with us. Our Veterinary team are very experienced and pride themselves on open and clear communication with you at all times. We are a family owned and run practice with a unique personal touch to every visit. We are passionate about what they do and are committed to making your visit with us the best experience you have had.
Dr. Bruce Krumm
Veterinary Surgeon -BSc BVMS MRCVS
Bruce was born and spent his youth in South Africa before emmigrating to the United States and completing his science degree at the University of Utah. He then headed off to Scotland where he completed his veterinary degree at the University of Glasgow in 2002. Preferring the more tropical lifestyle, he then came out to Australia, where he worked in Wauchope and Newcastle for a few years, before permanently settling on the Central Coast.
Bruce’s professional interests lie in all aspects of medicine and surgery. He has a particular passion for ultrasonography and soft tissue surgery.
Outside of work, Bruce enjoys diving, kayaking, crossfit and karate. Bruce owns Django who keeps him on his toes.
Dr. Stephen Ferrett
Veterinary Surgeon- BVSc (Hons)
Stephen completed his veterinary degree at the University of Queensland in 2010. He has worked in both small and mixed animal practices within Port Stephens and the Central Coast. Stephen also spent two years working as an emergency and critical care veterinarian at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) in Sydney and the Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) in Gosford. Stephen joined the team at Kanwal Veterinary Hospital in March of 2017.
Stephen is interested in all areas of veterinary general practice, but he holds a particular fondness for surgery, dentistry, and emergency medicine. And yes, he has seen the occasional ferret.
When not at work, Stephen enjoys being at home with his partner Belinda, son Cameron and daughter Chloe. He enjoys taking time out by training in karate, playing guitar, or indulging in a nice meal with a glass of wine. The family also lives with a lovely ginger cat named Reg, who is a little bit simple….
Dr. Briar Krumm (Thornburrow)
Veterinary Surgeon- BVSc (First Class Honours)
Briar undertook her veterinary degree and graduated from the University of Queensland in 2000. She has worked on the Central Coast since graduating. Her interests include small animal medicine and emergency medicine.
In her spare time, she is kept very busy being a Mum to two beautiful boys and two cats called Twisty and Rosie . She enjoys the beach, having a glass of wine and dinner with her friends , reading a good book, she can be found chilling out doing some yoga on her days off.
Dr Faye Cannon
Veterinary Surgeon BVetMed (London)
Faye completed her veterinary degree at the Royal Veterinary College in London in 1998. Since then she has worked in both the UK and Australia. She settled on the Central Coast in 2000 with her husband Barney and they have 3 amazing children Freja, Harvey and Darcy who keep them incredibly busy.
Faye has worked in small animal practice for over 20 years and to this day enjoys all aspects of medicine and surgery. She is a self confessed chatterbox and loves to connect with her clients and their furry friends.
Dr Calli Hicks
Veterinary Surgeon-DVM
Calli’s passion for veterinary medicine started in Southern California, where she would often accompany her Step Father on emergency veterinary calls. It wasn’t long before she completed
her Science degree in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behaviour at UC Davis. Calli then travelled to the West Indies to undertake her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at St. George’s University.
Following her path of world travel and education lead her to Western Australia where she met her husband and completed her final Veterinary studies at Murdoch University.
Calli’s professional interests are in preventative medicine, nutrition, and senior pet care. She also enjoys all aspects of Avian medicine wether it is a chicken or a fancy parrot.
Calli enjoys spending time with her three children and husband on their hobby farm which is home to cows, chickens and horses. They also have 3 dogs, and two cats. Calli’s hobbies include scuba diving, gardening, and cooking.

Dr Naomi Lessels
Veterinary Surgeon
Naomi is a small animal veterinarian who has been working on the Central Coast for almost 30 years. Over this time she feels blessed to have established many long term relationships with clients and it is this connection with them that gives her great professional enjoyment.
She loves the Central Coast and the beautiful natural surrounds it has to offer. When not working you will find her surfing, bushwalking or taking photos. Photography is something she adores and she does landscape, wildlife and model shoots.
Noami has two adult sons who she is very close to, they are doing plumbing and carpentry apprenticeships and also love the great outdoors. They are all very much nature lovers.
At home she has a wonderful partner who is a veterinary pathologist, their relationship blossomed after over ten years of discussing client cases on the phone. She is also kept entertained by the antics of her two cats and her sassy Pomeranian.

Our team of nurses work tirelessly to ensure your family member is looked after to best standards of care the Veterinary industry has to offer. Not only are they a committed, self motivated and caring bunch of professionals, they are great mates outside of work which makes working with such a beautiful team so rewarding.
Tiana McLaren
Practice Manager / Veterinary Nurse
Tiana is our Practice Manager and has come to our practice with 19 years’ industry experience and is really enjoying working with such a dedicated and devoted team at Kanwal. Tiana is a qualified Veterinary Nurse and has completed Cert IV in Frontline Management, Tiana runs our Puppy Preschool classes in which she has over 15 years experience doing.
Tiana has been a local all her life and has 4 young Children who she adores more than anything. They have 3 ponies called Molly, Willow and Stormy whom the kids adore, two cats Huey and Millie and two bordercollies names Banjo and Oakley. Tiana enjoys just being with her family and watching her children enjoy growing up in a rural setting.
Tiana leads our team and is very proud of each and every one of them and what they can bring to Kanwal Vet family.
Hayley Waterlander
Senior Veterinary Nurse
Hayley’s passion has always been to work with animals. She has been a veterinary nurse since 2006 and not looked back. Hayley became part of the Kanwal Veterinary Hospital family in 2012 and has completed Certificate 3 and 4 in Veterinary Nursing. Hayley is very talented at what she does and like all our nurses her patients always come first. She is highly committed to her role and leads our team of nurses with pride.
Her furry family consists of two spoilt cats Jinxy and Smokey, her ‘love of her life’, little Chihuahua, called Dixie and a horse called Honey. Her hobbies include horse riding, motorbiking, her two vintage cars and renovating her beautiful home.
Darleen Jager
Senior Veterinary Nurse
Darleen has worked at Kanwal vet since Oct 1996. She’s married and has 2 beautiful daughters, and they live with 2 dogs Frank and Enzo her cat Bindi .
Darleen loves spending her free time walking Frank and Enzo, having family time with her grandsons Leo and Banjo, riding her motorbike and camping. Darleen is a very treasured member of our Vet family here at Kanwal.
Jaimi-Lee Almond
Veterinary Nurse
Jaimi-Lee is an intergal part of our Nursing team and comes with a extensive knowledge and experience as a Vet Nurse.
Jaimi-Lee and her husaband, Joe have two sons, Reggie and Jimmy they enjoy hanging out with family, friends and their animals. She has been a Vet Nurse for over 10 years and loves her job, she only works Part- time whilst juggling working life and parenthood.
Makayla Bosch
Veterinary Nurses
Makayla competed her Veterinary nursing in 2020. In her spare time she enjoys looking after her 13 dogs and hanging out with her family on their property. Makayla and her husband Joel have two beautiful children, with one more on the way December 2024.
Makayla is passionate about animals and their welfare and loves caring for all of them. We are lucky to have Makayla as part of our wonderful nursing team.
Lauren Harmer
Veterinary Nurse
Lauren is one of our hardworing qualified Veterinary Nurses who has completed her Cert IV in Vet nursing in 2023. You will mostly find Lauren out the back in our theatere room looking after our surgical and hospital patients.
Lauren enjoys camping and being with family and friends. Lauren has her own beautiful , cheeky and clever Bordercollie named Kora who she loves spending time with and taking her on walks along the beach.
Jo Dixon
Veterinary Nurse
Jo joins our Nursing team with a wealth of experience having been nursing for 35 years. Jo is very passionate with people and their animals and understands the special bond they share.
Jo loves doing anything with her grandkids and spending time with her partner on weekends enjoying each others company.
Michelle Rech
Veterinary Nurse
Michelle joined our team in April 2023. She comes to us with over 10 years nursing experience, her knowledge and experience is a welcomed addition to our already talented nursing team, you will find Michelle only nursing on weekends for Kanwal.
Michelle has a special interest in post operative orthopeadic management and care, having encountered several cruciate ligament repairs with her own pets.
Sam Howard
Receptionist/ Veterinary Nurse
Sam is one of our welcoming receptionist that you will encounter when calling the clinic. Sam’s love for animals led to studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at Kurri Kurri campus. Since she finished that she hasn’t looked back.
She has three children, Maddison , Rylan and Ayden, along with 2 dogs called Boston (who is very special with 3 legs) and Ellie.
Sam’s calm and caring nature will rub off on you once you are greeted by her at reception.
Bec Wright
Receptionist / Veterinary Nurse
Bec joins our team with over 11 years industry experience as a veterinary nurse, and will be another friendly face you see as you walk in the door.
Bec’s love for animals came at a very young age being lucky enough to have been bought up on a farm surrounded by many fur friends.
Bec is married to her husband Stephen and together they share there two cheeky daughters and one very well loved Labrador Charsee.
Michelle Harmer
Receptionist / Trainee Veterinary Nurse
Michelle is part of our Reception team , she lives with her husband and 2 Border collies Malani and Obi. She loves speding time with her two adult children and is a registered wildlife carer for macropods. She is also undertaking her certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and will be qualified in November 2024.
We are looking forward to you meeting Michelle when you come into our reception, we are sure her infectious smile, great sense of humour and laugh will rub off on you when you are next in with your pets.
Sandra Hazeldine
Receptionist
Sandra joins our dynamic Reception team later this month, we are thrilled to have her part of our team.
Sandra has owned animals her whole life , growing up on a farm as a kid. She has a 11 year old Son Cooper who is a lego enthusiast and they both enjoy completing jigsaws together. She enjoys cooking (more so eating), all sports and anything outdoors. Sandra comes to us with many years of experience with the NSW Firebrigade , in which she is still an active member.
