Compassionate Support for Your Family

Understanding the Euthanasia Process

At Kanwal Veterinary Hospital on the Central Coast, we understand deciding to euthanise a beloved pet is a deeply emotional and personal choice. Our team is here to provide support and ensure the process is as peaceful and compassionate as possible. Before the procedure, you will sign a euthanasia consent form, and our reception team will walk you through aftercare options—including private cremation or taking your pet’s remains home for burial.

Once these decisions are made, a veterinary nurse will gently place an intravenous catheter in your pet’s foreleg to allow for a smooth and painless administration of the euthanasia solution. This solution essentially acts as an anaesthetic overdose, allowing your pet to pass away peacefully. You may choose to be present for this process, providing your pet with love and comfort in their final moments.

Aftercare & Support

After your pet has passed, you will be given time in a private space to say your final goodbyes. Once you feel ready, our team will respectfully handle your pet’s remains according to the aftercare option you have chosen. We work closely with Patch and Purr, a private cremation service, but you may also opt for a home burial. To make this process as smooth as possible, we arrange payment before the procedure to avoid distress afterward.

Losing a pet can be overwhelming, and grief can take many forms. If you or your family need support, resources are available to help navigate the emotions that follow. Whether through professional grief counselling, pet loss support groups or talking with those who understand, you don’t have to go through this alone. At Kanwal Veterinary Hospital, we are here to support you every step of the way, ensuring your pet’s final moments are filled with love, dignity and peace.
